How to set up an Instagram comment-to-DM campaign

By BIGI · Updated

Build a clear Instagram comment-to-DM campaign with a relevant keyword, approved reply, defined scope and human review.

Start with something worth requesting.

Choose one useful destination: a workshop information page, a product guide or a course outline. A clear offer makes the keyword meaningful. Sunday Clay uses CLAY for its beginner workshop details.

Put the promise in the post.

Tell people exactly what commenting the keyword will do. For the fictional studio: “Comment CLAY and we’ll send the beginner workshop details.” Avoid implying that a comment books a place or buys anything.

Confirm the answer before creating the campaign.

Add the workshop facts and approved link to Brain. Check dates, prices and inclusions. If a detail is unknown, leave it out of the reply and route the question to a person.

Keep the campaign scope deliberate.

Ask BIGI to create the campaign, then confirm the relevant post, keyword, audience, reply, destination and dates. Check the saved draft in Campaigns before activation. Start with one post so you can see exactly which comments trigger a reply.

Test the eligible flow.

Ask someone who has agreed to help to comment the keyword on the selected post. Check the public reply, the DM and the destination link in Instagram. Make sure the link opens the page you intended. If it does not, pause the campaign and correct the link before continuing.

Respect the end of the conversation.

A requested private reply does not grant permission for an unrelated follow-up campaign. Respect opt-outs and Instagram’s messaging limits. Use activity to inspect what happened and pause if the context changes.

Put it into practice.

Start with your own account information and choose the actions you want to review.
